Katy Perry Performs Medley of Hits at 2024 MTV VMAs
Perry started her performance suspended by a wire that made it look like she was floating above the stage. She performed “Dark Horse” and “E.T.” while flying through the air over her backup dancers, before joining Doechii to perform their song “I’m His, He’s Mine.”
Perry went on to perform “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” before donning a huge pair of silver butterfly wings to sing “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework.” She ended the medley with a performance of her new single “Lifetimes.” In the final moment, she held up a mechanical butterfly.
The singer’s performance was introduced by her fiancé Orlando Bloom, who said, “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson.” He added that she has “brought a sense of joy and laughter, inspiring generations of people from all over the world.”

Perry Thanks Her Fans In Acceptance Speech
After her performance, Perry accepted the Video Vanguard Award, joking, “I did that all on my first day of my period, too. Can you believe it?” She went on to thank MTV “for believing in my weirdness from day one.”
“There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decade-long accidents,” Perry said, before thanking her team, her label, and her family. That includes Bloom, “for keeping me grounded, celebrated, and doing the dishes,” and her daughter Daisy, “the only flowers I’ll ever need.”
She also thanked her fans, the KatyCats, “who stood by me for a lifetime.” Perry went on to shout out the LGBTQ community, “who show me that you can be both kind and c*nt.” She said she’s “learned to block out all the noise” throughout her career, telling fellow artists, “Do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art.”
She ended her speech by reminding fans that her new album 143 comes out on September 20.
