Katharine McPhee, David Foster’s 2-Year-Old Son Displays Jaw-Dropping Drum Skills
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Katharine McPhee and David Foster’s young son Rennie is already proving he inherited some serious musical abilities from his famous parents. McPhee recently shared a video of her two-year-old expertly playing the drums along to Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You.”
McPhee Gushes Over Son’s “Genius” Drumming Talent
In a TikTok video posted last Friday, McPhee captured her toddler Rennie rocking out on a custom mini drum set as Jackson’s song blasted in the background. The proud mother raved about her son in the new clip.
McPhee was clearly blown away by her son’s technical drumming skills, writing in the caption, “Like what?!” Foster also shared the video on Instagram, writing “Drumming into the new year” and hashtagging that Rennie is #still2yearsold.

The post received amazed reactions from celebrities like Charlie Puth, Kristin Chenoweth, and more. Puth called Rennie’s drumming “in the blood,” while Chenoweth commented, “I still can’t believe him!” The video has garnered over 26 million views at the time of writing.
Rennie’s incredible beat abilities at such a young age are likely no surprise because of his superstar pedigree. Foster is a 16-time Grammy-winning producer and composer, while McPhee rose to fame as a singer on American Idol.
This wasn’t the first time the couple had shown off Rennie’s precocious drumming talent. Back in October 2022, McPhee posted a similar video of the toddler effortlessly playing along to a song.
During an interview last fall, Foster and McPhee said they weren’t yet sure if Rennie would pursue music. However, his natural rhythm and love of drumming seem to suggest he’s on track to follow his parents’ path.
Foster, McPhee to Support Rennie’s Passion
While every child goes through phases, Rennie’s musical gift appeared extremely early and has persisted over many months.
In previous interviews, McPhee and Foster have sounded supportive of nurturing their son’s interests, whether that leads to an entertainment career or not. As long as Rennie maintains his passion, his superstar parents will surely provide him with every opportunity to thrive.
The viral drumming videos have made one thing clear – this toddler seems to have an innate sense of rhythm well beyond his years. Seeing Rennie light up while making music is a joy for McPhee and Foster to behold.
If the two-year-old virtuoso ever decides to pursue drumming seriously, he’s already got major skills that could launch an exciting career down the road. For now, his celebrity parents are happy witnessing Rennie follow his musical passion, wherever it may lead.
