John Legend gave one street performer the surprise of a lifetime when he stumbled across her performance outside of Faneuil Hall in Boston. Radha Rao regularly performs Legend’s hit, “All of Me,” as a part of her set. She never expected to see the 12-time Grammy winner watching her cover the song during an outing with his family.
Rao was performing for a crowd when a man in a face mask and trench coat walked up to listen. She didn’t recognize Legend at first until he dropped his mask. He was in town for his Bigger Love Tour date at the Orpheum Theatre. He watched her perform the song with a smile plastered on his face.

Rao kept her cool even though she was “shocked” to see Legend and his entire family standing there. In the video, Legend looked on as his son Miles, 3, with Chrissy Teigen, enjoyed a cup of ice cream. When Rao finished the song, she thanked Legend for listening. He pulled out his wallet immediately to tip her.
“Afterwards he went over to me and kindly tipped me which was unexpected, but he also came over and gave me a hug and definitely gave me some words of encouragement regarding my voice and my rendition,” she told CBS Boston. “And he told me that he was honored that I sang his song, so it was wonderful.”
The crowd cheered when they realized Legend was standing there. Locals caught the interaction on camera where Legend chatted with her after the set. The video of the interaction has been going viral on social media.
“I just thought it was a great family moment, watching him interact with his kids,” Rao said. “They were very happy, and he was holding them, holding their hands, and being an affectionate dad. It was beautiful to see that. [Teigen] seems super chill. I think she was trying to keep a lower profile. She was very sweet as well.”
Legend has been balancing filming Season 21 of The Voice with his tour this year. He will be closing out the tour with a live stream experience on Oct.24. It’s pretty cool to see him supporting local artists on and off the screen.
“He was so incredibly humble and encouraging to local artists,” Rao added. “I look up to him immensely, and I love that he plays acoustic instruments like I do.”
Thanks for posting. That was a real treat. Legend is quite generous. Nice guy. (Hope he tipped her well!)
