John Legend Spreads Holiday Cheer Performing “What Christmas Means To Me” on ‘The Voice’

On Tuesday night’s Season 24 semifinals elimination episode of The Voice, coach John Legend delivered a heartwarming holiday treat. Five years after releasing his Christmas album A Legendary Christmas in 2018, Legend performed a moving rendition of the classic song “What Christmas Means to Me” on the hit singing competition show.

As one of the most accomplished artists to ever coach on The Voice, Legend took a brief respite from mentoring his singers Lila Forde and Mac Royals to showcase his own vocal prowess. Host Carson Daly introduced the special number by mentioning Legend’s holiday album release from 2018.
As the familiar melody filled the air, Legend launched into his signature smooth-as-silk vocals gliding effortlessly over the piano accompaniment. Lights surrounding the stage dimmed while tiny bulbs flickered like dazzling holiday lights, setting the festive atmosphere.
Legend’s incredible voice seems to reach new depths of emotion when delivering heartfelt ballads about love and family. This was no exception. He sang with his eyes closed at times, visibly immersed in the meaningful lyrics about the warmth and joy of Christmas. Hitting gorgeous high notes towards the climax, Legend unleashed the stunning soulful ardency he’s revered for.
The delighted coaches and audience members rose to their feet for a standing ovation as the powerful performance reached its conclusion. The fellow coaches all visibly entertained and remarked on Legend’s impressive technical prowess.
Team Legend’s Lila Forde Will be Advancing to The Finale
While two of Legend’s talented team members Lila Forde and Mac Royals initially advanced to the finale round, heartbreakingly Mac Royals did not earn enough votes later in the evening to keep him in contention. Only one of Legend’s singers will still have the chance next week to become the season 24 winner.
Nonetheless, Legend briefly shifted the focus from the high stakes to the warmth and merriment of the Christmas season. His stunning “What Christmas Means To Me” number reminded viewers of the uplifting reasons we celebrate the holidays each year – for connection, understanding, and goodwill towards all people.
Legend once again showcased unmatched vocal ability unequaled by any past coach on the Emmy Award-winning show. As the competition gears up towards next week’s finale without Mac Royals, audiences will undoubtedly have Legend’s spectacular holiday performance playing on repeat.
