Jennifer Lopez Fangirls Hard Over Kelly Clarkson’s “Waiting For Tonight” Cover

Jennifer Lopez wasn’t ashamed to fangirl over Kelly Clarkson’s sultry cover of “Waiting for Tonight.” Lopez reveals she’s been a longtime fan of Clarkson ever since the two worked together on American Idol season 15.
Lopez’s Reaction to Clarkson Covering Her Song
The Kelly Clarkson Show is getting a lot of attention for its music series Kellyoke, where Clarkson performs covers of her favorite songs. One of the most recent covers featured Jennifer Lopez’s song “Waiting for Tonight.”
The original version of the song was released by girl group 3rd Party and has an energetic dance club vibe. Lopez released the song as part of her 1999 album, On The 6. When Clarkson announced she’d perform a sultry cover of the single, she transformed the track to a beautiful slow ballad.
Lopez tweeted a clip of the song while expressing how much she loved Clarkson’s rendition of the track. She is admittedly been a fan of Clarkson for years since Clarkson became a guest judge on American Idol before.
Lopez at the time, along with judge Keith Urban emotionally felt Clarkson’s performance of her song “Piece by Piece.” Urban and Lopez couldn’t stop the tears from falling because of the moving performance, even Clarkson herself became emotional. Lopez agreed that it was one of the all-time great American Idol moments.
“I was so into her performance and watching her and feeling so much for her, I didn’t even realize Keith Urban was falling apart next to me!” Lopez said.
It’s been a while since Lopez and Clarkson reunited, so it was amazing to see the them interact on social media. Maybe next Lopez will release a cover of “Piece by Piece.”
Janet Jackson is Also a Kelly Clarkson Fan
Another song that went viral on social media was Clarkson’s 2021 cover of “Escapade” by Janet Jackson. Jackson loved the cover so much that she made a virtual guest appearance to show Clarkson her support.
Jackson thanked the host, saying “I think you’re an absolutely wonderful singer.” She followed up by saying she would love to hear Clarkson cover more of her songs.
Another megastar that praised Clarkson for her covers is Mariah Carey. Carey called Clarkson’s cover of her 1990 song “Vanishing,” a beautiful rendition and to keep the amazing covers coming.
