Reading Time: 3 minutes

Blake Shelton is one of the biggest names in country music in the entire world, so being compared to him is the ultimate compliment. Ben Allen auditioned for season 19 of The Voice with his sights set on having Blake as a coach. Check out his Blind Audition below singing Brooks & Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road.”

Ben Allen Was Blake Shelton’s Mini Me On ‘The Voice’

Immediately when Ben started singing, all of the coaches ears perked up and all eyes shifted to Blake. It was clear that his strong country voice appealed to Blake and almost mirrored him. About 12 seconds into Ben’s performance, Blake hit his button and turned his chair. Gwen Stefani then turned her chair but shared a look with Blake, almost knowing how this audition was going to go.

Just a few seconds later, John Legend turned his chair. The 42 year old was aiming for a four chair turn and even gestured to Kelly’s chair during his performance. But Kelly seemingly knew that she had no chance against Blake, and did not turn her chair.

“I’m kind of country now,” Gwen said after Ben’s performance. Ben said that it wasn’t a done deal that he would be choosing Blake as his coach and was considering all of his options. “Your voice when you first started singing that song sounded like a record” Gwen continued. “So clear and strong and confident, I think you have a lot of potential and I would love to work with you.”

John complimented Ben’s tone and recognized that Blake has been dominating the show with country artists for a long time. “I miss a good old fashioned nasally sounding country singer” Blake chimed in. He compared Ben to Ronnie Dunn and said country music is all he ever wants to do. He finished off his speech saying he would like to share with Ben everything he has learned along the way.

Which Team Did Ben End Up On?

Of course, it was no surprise here that Ben chose to be on Team Blake. The pair obviously had the country connection, and Ben is pretty much a clone of Blake. Will Blake win the show with a country artist this year? We know America loves country artists so it will be interesting to see if Ben can propel past The Battles and make it to the live shows.

But judging based on how hard Blake fought the other coaches to have Ben on his team, he probably is here to stay on The Voice.
