‘Go-Big Show’ Contestant Shoots Hoops While Hanging by His Teeth in Season Premiere

TBS

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Go-Big Show returned Thursday night on TBS for the Season 2 premiere, and it featured one of the most unique acts we’ve ever seen. Amadeus “Iron Jaw” Lopez hung from the ceiling by his teeth while shooting a ball into a basketball hoop with his foot.

If that sounds crazy to you, you would be right. We’ve seen people hang by their mouths before, but this added a totally new element to the trick. Shockingly, the judges chose not to send Amadeus to the Semifinals, and some fans on Twitter disagree with the decision.

‘Go-Big Show’ Contestant Shoots Hoops Hanging by His Teeth

Amadeus wore a red suit for his Go-Big Show performance, which is also different from many of the aerialists we’ve seen before. He started by simply swinging while holding onto the rope, and that was enough to impress judge Rosario Dawson, who said it looked beautiful.

Then Amadeus took it up a notch by grasping the leather strap with only his teeth. As if that wasn’t enough, he had a basketball hoop above him, and he kicked a ball into it with his foot. He missed on his first try, but he got it straight into the net after that.

As Go-Big Show host Bert Kreischer pointed out, Amadeus has fallen while performing this act in the past. He didn’t have any safety net under him, so the act was incredible dangerous. He pulled it off gracefully, saying afterward that he “wanted to push myself and go as high as I can.”

Was Amadeus Robbed of a Spot in the Semifinals?

Amadeus was up against J.D. “Iceman” Anderson, a strongman who broke his own world record by smashing 96 blocks of ice, many of them with his head. Ultimately, J.D. earned the higher average score from the judges with a 92. Amadeus shockingly only got a score of 86.

Judge Jennifer Nettles explained her lower score by saying Amadeus had lower energy. It’s an interesting decision, since it seemed like Amadeus would have been able to take his act in new and interesting directions. It’s harder to imagine J.D. topping his audition performance while still keeping things interesting.

Some Go-Big Show fans have tweeted their belief that Amadeus was robbed of a spot in the semifinals. One user shared that they thought he “went bigger” than J.D. Another tweeted that the judges “ripped off Iron Jaw.”
