Who is the Argentinian Dance Group Malevo?
Malevo is an eight-man ensemble from Buenos Aires, Argentina that performs the Malambo, a folk dance accompanied by the bombo legüero drum. The lively and talented dancers use both modern and traditional music to present a rhythmic Malambo routine with tap dancing, thumping drums, and spinning boleadoras.
Most of the members of the dancing group grew up together in poverty and have known each other since they were children. The group’s founder, MatÃas Jaime, has dedicated his entire life to the Malambo dance and has the ambition to take Malambo to stages all over the world while also improving the lives of the dancers’ families. Malevo makes an effort to elevate the Malambo dance by giving it a more contemporary and distinctive appearance that retains the dance’s passion and vigor.
The dance group competed on season 11 of AGT, where they received the Golden Buzzer from guest judge George Lopez. Although they didn’t win AGT, their memorable performances on the show launched them into worldwide recognition. Malevo has appeared in festivals, TV programs, private events, and theaters in France, Canada, Mexico, and the United States since winning AGT.
