Dwayne Johnson Shares His Country Music Dreams With Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson is known for singing a little bit of everything. From her pop roots to her list of “Kellyoke” covers, she’s dabbled in every genre. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the other hand is not widely known for singing much of any genre. So what would possess Kelly to invite the wrestling icon turned film star to perform a country duet? As a recent guest on her show, “The Rock” reveals he considered different career options before the WWE.
Dwayne “The Country Music Star” Johnson
Appearing as a guest on her show last week, the WWE legend and actor sat with Kelly for a video chat. She shared her recent learnings that Johnson once had aspirations to be a country music star. Johnson confirmed this to be true and sheds some light on the country star that never was. He tells a story from his teenage years when he lived in Nashville. This was where the idea of a country music career was briefly considered.
As he recalls it, he was overheard singing while “shopping” at the store one day. Another shopper had followed the voice and was shocked to find Johnson singing the tune. After a brief conversation, she suggested he go to Broad Street, known among country singers for its popular live music scene. For a brief time, he thought he would become a country music singer until realizing he in fact, wasn’t all that good of a singer.
Kelly Clarkson and “The Rock” Look To Tag Team
Kelly assured him he can sing, recognizing his vocal talent in Moana. She notes that Johnson’s wife is also a singer and invites them to stop by so they can all sing together. Johnson expressed excitement at the idea of a duet and sings a snippet from “Islands In the Stream.” Kelly looks forward to the future duet, although that song choice might not make the show. We’ll have to stay tuned for the epic duet of “The Rock” and the Idol, both the people’s champs.
