Katy Perry recently wrapped up her sixth season as a judge on American Idol. According to a new report, Perry is thinking about quitting the show due to the backlash she’s received from fans over her judging style.
Does Katy Perry Want to Quit American Idol?
Perry sparked a bit of backlash this season, particularly for her comments to contestant Sara Beth Liebe. A video also went viral of her faking out contestants who made it into the Top 24. Her anti-Broadway comments also bothered some people, including AGT alum Tory Vagasy.
During Hawaii Week, Perry was even booed by the crowd for the first time in six seasons after she suggested that contestant Nutsa should tone down her sparkle. It inspired fellow judge Luke Bryan to cheer, “Yes! Katy got booed. Katy got booed.”
The Daily Mail reports that, according to sources, Perry wants to quit the show over the belief that she’s been “thrown under the bus by producers” who have edited her to look like the “nasty judge” on the panel.
“Katy became aware of the harsh criticism,” a source told the outlet. “Getting booed really upset her. She was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home … Katy’s wanted out for some time now, but this season was way too much for her to handle.”

Perry Said She Has ‘FOMO’ After Six Seasons
Following Sunday night’s Season 21 finale, Extra asked Perry outright if she plans to return for the next season. (The show was officially renewed for Season 22 earlier this month.) She had an interesting response.
“I think we have to talk about it tonight. I think we’re all gonna talk about it tonight,” Perry said. “I love my job, and I love what I do. I know that, like, I miss going out into the world and doing what those kids get to do. I’m getting a little FOMO after all these years, ’cause it’s been quite a minute.”
However, she added of her potential return to the panel, “I hope so. We’ll see.”
In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Perry seemed to hint at the backlash she’s received when asked to name the most challenging part of being a judge. Perry answered, “Probably being a woman and having a strong opinion.” She followed that up with a smile and a wink.
