Demi Lovato has released a new song called “Substance,” along with a music video. The track, off the singer’s upcoming new album Holy Fvck, is a total pop-rock throwback. Meanwhile, the video features a cameo from Paris Hilton.
Demi Lovato Releases Music Video for ‘Substance’
Lovato’s new song “Substance” feels like a mainstream punk song from the early 2000s. The singer gets angry on the track, asking, “Am I the only one looking for substance?” And like the album’s title, the song also features some NSFW language.
In the video, Lovato tears up a meeting room full of record executives before ending up on a film set. The clip ends with them walking out into a sea of paparazzi photographers and posing on a motorcycle with Paris Hilton, who lights up a bundle of dynamite.
The whole thing feels very 15 years ago, in the best possible way. It has us looking forward to Lovato’s new album, out August 19. The singer previously released another single earlier this year called “Skin of My Teeth.”

Lovato appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, telling guest host Mark Rober that they’re “going back to my roots” on the new album. They added that they were “a huge fan of the Warped Tour days and the emo days.”
The singer also shared the story of injuring their face earlier this week. Lovato posted a TikTok on Wednesday saying they needed stiches after hitting their head on a crystal. They elaborated in the interview, saying they were picking something up off the floor and hit their head on a tall amethyst.
Lovato confirmed that they had to get three stitches for the injury after a FaceTime call with their doctor. Hopefully they’ll be healed up ahead of their upcoming tour, which starts August 30.
