On Wednesday, Christina Aguilera performed in an all black outfit with a glistening red plunge accent at the Latin Recording Academy’s gala. Aguilera definitely went all out for this look, she had leather pants gloves, and high heeled boots. Not only did this singer nail her vocals in this performance, she nailed the outfit.

Aguilera gave a salute at the Latin Recording Academy gala to Latin music legend Rubén Blades. Blades nickname is the “intellectual” of Salsa music. He was a big part of popularizing salsa music in the 1970’s. This singer-songwriter often wrote about poverty and violence in Latin communities. Most recently, this singer has earned nine Grammy awards in the time of his career. He received his most recent Grammy Award in 2020 for Best Tropical Song.

For her performance, Aguilera sang Blades’ song “Camaleon” and absolutely shocked the audience. Not only did she rock this performance, her outfit was almost spot on to Blades’ concert attire. This live tribute was a part of the “Person of the Year” gala for the Latin Recording Academy. Blades typically performs in all black attire so naturally Aguilera had to add her own flare. She wouldn’t be the fashionista we know and love without the red accent.

Christina Aguilera Continues to Explore Latin Music

This former The Voice coach is a superstar in the pop genre with hits like “Genie in a Bottle,” “Lady Marmalade,” and others. Although she is Latin, the pop star has received a lot of criticism over the years for not publicly embracing her Latin side. In 2012 this Aguilera was open that she struggles with this criticism.

“I wouldn’t be questioned [about my heritage] if I looked more stereotypically Latina,” Aguilera said. “Whatever that is. All I know is no one can tell me I’m not a proud Latina woman… I dove headfirst into a Spanish-language album for that reason and I’m planning another one even though I don’t speak the language. I’m sure that doesn’t sit well with some people.”

Recently Aguilera has been releasing more songs in Spanish, so I’d say her pop success has translated well into the Latin music scene.

Aguilera just teased the release of her newest song, “Somos Nada.” The singer shared a teaser audio clip of the song, and fans were not prepared for this one. They shared a lot of love in the comments of her teaser Instagram photo. The new song will drop later today.

This singer has always had a pretty versatile voice (as we’ve seen from her tribute performances), so it’s always cool to see her perform in different genre, let alone language. Her voice has always been like butter in her higher register, but this newest release really embraces it. I cannot wait to listen to her new song!

She’s such a strong individual shaped by a long professional experience. Unlike her peers notably those opting for more savvy public image and musicality sense, she during her whole career has oftentimes been met with harsh, judgmental, unfair criticisms, yet she managed to get out shining even brighter. She’s simply amazing.
