During The Voice Season 22 premiere on Monday night, Blake Shelton made a pretty awkward comment to new coach Camila Cabello. The pair also established a bit of a rivalry, as Shelton used a few new gimmicks to silence the other coaches.

Blake Shelton’s Inappropriate Comment to Camila Cabello

While Cabello was reflecting on a contestant’s Blind Audition during Monday night’s show, Shelton appeared behind her. She said she wanted to “be quiet so he doesn’t steal my secret” to win the show. Shelton asked if her secret was her “puffy sleeves.”

He went on to call her outfit “a pirate shirt.” Then he referred to the pink flower on her collar, asking, “Does your flower squirt? Is it a squirty flower?”

Cabello laughed and shook her head as Shelton admitted, “Sounds weird when I say it like that. Almost inappropriate and disgusting.” Cabello agreed that it was “very inappropriate,” even as she continued to laugh.

Fans on Twitter were shocked by the moment, with one user writing, “What’s crazier, Blake asking Camila if her flower squirts or that NBC left it in the show.”

Is Shelton Establishing a Rivalry with Cabello?

During Monday’s show, Shelton pulled out a few tricks to draw attention to himself at the expense of his fellow coaches. First, he pushed a button that put the other coaches in darkness while he talked to artist Morgan Myles.

Then at the end of the show, he muted Camila Cabello’s microphone while she was trying to talk to Kate Kalvach. Cabello even tried grabbing Kate’s mic and speaking into the mic on John Legend’s shirt, but Shelton muted all of them.

Before the season started, Legend said Shelton had “softened” in the presence of his wife, fellow coach Gwen Stefani. However, the first episode isn’t showing much proof of that. Shelton seems to be his same old competitive self, if not more so.
