Blake Shelton appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to talk about his wedding to wife Gwen Stefani earlier this year. He admitted that he let Stefani take over all the wedding planning, jokingly calling himself a “lazy, deadbeat husband.”
Blake Shelton Let Gwen Stefani Control Their Wedding Plans
Shelton told DeGeneres that he took a step back and let Stefani do whatever she wanted for their wedding, saying, “What do I know about any of that stuff, you know? But of course it was all her idea, her vision. And all I had to do was drink and kiss Gwen Stefani. It’s the greatest gig I ever had.”
Shelton and Stefani have been dating since 2015, after meeting on the set of The Voice during Stefani’s first season on the show. They got engaged in October of last year, and they finally tied the knot this past July, with The Voice host Carson Daly officiating.
The couple wrote their own vows for the occasion, and Shelton chose to put his in the form of a song. He released the romantic track, called “We Can Reach the Stars,” on the deluxe edition of his album Body Language.

Is This Why Adam Levine Wasn’t Invited?
DeGeneres showed a clip from when former The Voice coach Adam Levine was on her show in April of this year. She asked if he was going to sing at Shelton and Stefani’s wedding, and he joked he “doesn’t support their marriage,” because Gwen is “so cool,” and Shelton is not.
Levine actually didn’t end up attending the wedding at all. Shelton said his mom showed him the video of Levine talking to Ellen, and added, “That’s the reason we didn’t invite him to the wedding, is that interview he did on your show.”
In reality, Shelton and Stefani just wanted to keep their wedding small. Shelton estimated that even with the people involved in the wedding planning, there were fewer than 30 people there. He said it was “exactly what it needed to be.”
