BGT returned on Saturday night with the first episode of the semifinals, as eight acts performed for the chance to make it to the Season 14 finals.
The night started with hosts Ant and Dec performing a musical number to welcome viewers back to the show after so many months away. They shared that the judges would be choosing one act from the night to go to the finals, while the audience would vote for the second act to move on.
Since Simon is still recovering from back surgery, former Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashley Banjo filled in as a guest judge. The audience, meanwhile, was made up of people watching virtually from their homes.
The night was full of impressive performances, as well as a dangerous one from daredevil James Stott, who seemingly put his life in the judges’ hands and said he would take responsibility if the act went wrong.

This dance group, with members who dress as Ninja Turtles, started the show with an energetic performance that featured a little homage to former contestant Susan Boyle. David Walliams said it was “so much fun,” and Alesha Dixon said the music reminded her of her teenage years. However, Ashley thought it wasn’t good enough to win.
James & Dylan Piper
This father-son magic duo returned to the show to perform a new trick for the judges. James appeared on stage, while Dylan appeared via video chat to guess the subjects of various photographs seemingly chosen at random. It ended with a tribute to Ashley and his baby son. Alesha said they surpassed her expectations, and Ashley said they “set the bar.”
This 21-year-old singer returned to the stage to sing “You Say” by Lauren Daigle, performing part of the lyrics in Arabic. Amanda Holden said it was “absolutely phenomenal.” Ashley said she pushed past her nerves to give a great performance. Alesha called it “unique” and “classy.”
This 11-year-old dancer delivered another impressive performance, this time set to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. Ashley said he felt “privileged” to watch Yakub perform, encouraging him to believe in himself. David said it was “emotional,” and Alesha pointed out how much the virtual audience loved it.
This daredevil put himself in one of several boxes and tasked the judges with destroying four of them at random. After cutting himself out of the last box, he shared yet another shocking twist with the BGT judges, who gave him a standing ovation. Ashley said he was on the edge of his seat.
SOS From The Kids
This kids’ choir is dedicated to saving the environment. They prerecorded their performance ahead of tonight’s show, singing a song about helping the planet. Amanda said she was “moved” by it, and added that the message meant a lot coming from children’s voices.
This 13-year-old singer earned Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer during the auditions. Tonight, she performed “Stand Up for Something” by Andra Day. Ashley said she would have done Simon proud if he was there, calling her a “winner.” David called it the best performance of the night.
This comedian made the BGT judges howl with laughter as he told jokes, juggled, and danced. David said he should be in the finals, and Alesha said he didn’t disappoint, calling him “perfect for this show.” Amanda said he’s “what the nation needs.”
‘BGT’ Results: Who’s Going To The Finals?
The judges were tasked with choosing their top three performances of the night, and then voted on which act should move on to the finals. The top three were Fayth Ifil, James & Dylan Piper, and Steve Royle. All four judges chose to send Steve Royle to the finals.
The remaining seven acts are up for public vote until Monday, and we’ll find out who went through at the final in October. Let us know in the comments which act was your favorite!
