Are You Team V. Unbeatable Or Team Kodi Lee On ‘AGT’ ?
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The America’s Got Talent quarterfinals aren’t even over yet, but V.Unbeatable and Kodi Lee have already emerged as the frontrunners to win this season. You may have expected Kodi to be unstoppable, but V.Unbeatable proved themselves to be serious competition this past week.
Interestingly, the two acts each received a Golden Buzzer from one half of celebrity couple Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. Will husband or wife emerge with the best act? Let’s take a closer look at Kodi and V.Unbeatable’s time on the show.
Is Kodi Lee Coasting Through The AGT Competition?
Kodi Lee took the internet by storm after the premiere episode of Season 14. Kodi is blind and has autism. His soulful voice and impressive piano skills captured people’s hearts. Gabrielle Union hit the Golden Buzzer for Kodi in his audition, and the video was shared by names as big as Oprah Winfrey.
Kodi returned to the AGT stage for the quarterfinals. He performed Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” According to judge Simon Cowell, Paul Simon himself approved the cover after only 30 minutes, having seen Kodi’s audition.
The judges and audience gave Kodi a standing ovation after his performance. “You keep changing the world,” Gabrielle told him tearfully. “Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.”
“We are nothing without people like you,” Simon said. “You are genuinely one of the most extraordinary people and talents we’ve had the great fortune of having on any show we’ve ever made.”
Unsurprisingly, America voted to send Kodi Lee to the semifinals. “I thought Kodi Lee might coast,” Gabrielle told Talent Recap of his future on the show. However, she admitted that V.Unbeatable might actually be “neck and neck” with him.
Is V.Unbeatable Actually Unbeatable on AGT?
“They came to slay,” Gabrielle said of V.Unbeatable’s quarterfinals routine. “It’s gonna make it really tough for our voters.”
V.Unbeatable is an acrobatic dance group from the slums of India. After an impressive audition, the group returned for the Judge Cuts round and earned the Golden Buzzer from guest judge Dwyane Wade. “My heart is beating at a rapid pace that I haven’t felt before,” he told them.
The group returned last week and pulled out all the stops for their quarterfinals performance, in which dancers flew through hoops and over carts. Julianne Hough called it the best performance of the night, while Howie Mandel took it a step further.
“I’ve been here for 10 years, I’ve watched it for 14 years,” Howie said of his experience with AGT. “By far, the best performance I have ever witnessed.”
America voted to send V.Unbeatable through to the semifinals. Will they live up to their name and beat Kodi Lee for the million-dollar prize? Or will a dark horse emerge and beat both of them?
Who Will Win Season 14 of America’s Got Talent?
If we look at the history of AGT winners, Kodi Lee seems to have a better chance of taking home the million dollars. Six singers have won the competition (eight if you include singing ventriloquists Terry Fator and Darci Lynne Farmer), whereas a dance group has never won.
Dance and acrobatic groups have, however, been runners-up in the competition. For instance, the shadow-based dance group Silhouettes came in second place in Season 6, while acrobatic group Zurcaroh was second only to winner Shin Lim in Season 13. Maybe V.Unbeatable will be the first dance group to make it past second place.
