‘American Idol’ Winner Laine Hardy Teases ‘New Direction’ for His Career
American Idol Season 17 winner Laine Hardy took to Instagram Wednesday night to share that he’s taking his career in a “new direction.” The singer hinted that he’s leaving his record label and encouraged fans to “stay tuned for what’s coming next.”
American Idol Winner Laine Hardy Teases Next Steps
“I was just 17 years old when I first tried out for American Idol, and at the time, I couldn’t have ever imagined where I was headed,” Hardy wrote to begin his post, highlighting everything he’s done since then. “I had to grow up more quickly and I am still learning more about myself every day.”
Hardy went on to recognize 19 Entertainment and Disney Music Group for their “support and guidance.” However, he added that it’s “time for me to take my career in a new direction and I am figuring that out.”
The implication seems to be that Hardy is leaving his label. The singer’s followers commented their support on the post, including Season 16 American Idol winner Maddie Poppe, who left three heart emojis. The show itself also commented with hearts.
Hardy Is Working on New Music
Over the past several months, Hardy has apparently been working on new music, as he recently wrote on Instagram that he’s “been writing songs lately.” This follows a period of social media silence following his arrest earlier this year.
Hardy was arrested in April for allegedly spying on a female LSU student by planting a listening device in her room. Shortly after this news broke, Hardy appeared in a pre-recorded performance at the American Idol 20th anniversary reunion.
Hardy returned to social media in July to share a new song with fans. He’s shared snippets of other music in the months since then, including a recent track about wanting to better himself. Is an album announcement in Hardy’s future? We’ll have to wait and see.
