“Because if whiskey’s only on this side of heaven,” Beckham sings on the song’s chorus, “And they don’t play outlaw songs up in the sky / I’m gonna raise a glass to this cowboy life I’m livin’ / And I’m gonna keep on raisin’ hell till the day I die.”

Beckham explained in an Instagram video that he intended the song to be about “hanging onto that little bit of rebel inside of you.” However, the song took on new meaning after a friend of his passed away and he performed it while touring.

“It was an emotional time, and every time I played the song more and more, I just felt like my buddy was… like his energy was there with us,” Beckham shared. “That was just a really cool feeling. Like I’m riding in the truck, and you feel like he’s sitting right next to you.”

The singer ended up dedicating each performance of the song to his late friend, adding that “the whole crowd sings along to it and you don’t really have to ask them to.” He said he hopes the song can help people get through tough times.

Beckham Is Touring with Luke Bryan This Year

Beckham has certainly been keeping busy since he won Season 19 of American Idol back in 2021. In addition to touring, he’s also released several singles and a six-song EP called Doin’ It Right.

The singer currently has a number of dates lined up as a special guest on Idol judge Luke Bryan’s Country On Tour. He’ll be performing on the tour throughout the year, from June to October. Fans can see the full list of dates and buy tickets on Beckham’s website.

Last year, Beckham called Bryan “a good mentor,” joking that he “can’t get rid of me.” He shared that “everybody from the Idol family, we all keep in touch and love on each other.”
