During a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, American Idol season one runner-up Justin Guarini looked back at his time on the series. In addition, he talked about his new animated series, Super Kitties.

Justin Guarini Says Clarkson is an Expert Speed Player

September last year marks the twentieth anniversary of Kelly Clarkson‘s American Idol win, and some fans couldn’t help but ask what her time on the show was like. While reminiscing about their time on the show, Guarini revealed their favorite pastime backstage at American Idol, playing the card game Speed.

The game requires fast reflexes and quick thinking, and it’s surprising to find out that Clarkson is very good at playing the game. Having plenty of time before getting ready for the show, Guarini and Clarkson are rivals on stage but close friends who like to be competitive at times.

“We would hang out and we would play speed because there were huge swaths of time, and I think I may have won twice in the hundreds of time that we played together,” Guarini said.

While they do admit that remembering details from 20 years ago is difficult, their afternoons spent playing Speed remains one of their fondest memories. The two American Idol alums are clearly both doing great, with Clarkson having a successful talk show, and Guarini transitioning to Broadway.

Guarini Talks About Being The Villain on an Animated Series

Guarini expressed his excitement playing as the villain on the new animated series Super Kitties. As he revealed on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the new series will have plenty of song numbers, as well as teach key messages of kindness, friendship, and problem-solving to the youth.

The show’s premise is about four kittens who are kind and with their talents, and turn into superheroes when trouble arises. Guarini plays as Cat Burglar, who as the name suggests, steals things and acts as the main antagonist of the show.

“The cool thing about the show is, and the cool thing about Cat Burglar, is that he always learns his lesson, and he’s always apologizing.” Guarini said. “Yes! Yes I get to sing in it too, yeah that clip in the show is one of the parts where I get to sing in it.”

Guarani joyously revealed that a big factor why he loves doing the show is that it’s a musical and he gets to sing in it. The series is set to premiere Wednesday, January 11, 2023, with a simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
