‘American Idol’ Recap: Top 10 Revealed After Viewers Vote Live
Reading Time: 2 minutes
American Idol Season 21 returned on Sunday for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night, as America voted live coast to coast for which singers they wanted to see in the Top 10. The Top 12 were mentored by Adam Lambert before taking the stage. At the end of the night, the two singers eliminated ended up being the same two who were saved by the judges last week.
American Idol Top 12 Take the Stage for a Live Vote
The Top 12 delivered some fantastic performances on Sunday night’s show. One of the night’s standouts was Wé Ani, who pulled out all the stops for her rendition of “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Etta James. Katy Perry told her she “just turned this thing into a competition.”
Another knockout performance came from Megan Danielle, who sang Bonnie Raitt’s “Angel from Montgomery.” Luke Bryan told her she’s “the reason American Idol works,” while Lionel Richie called it a “stellar performance.”
Iam Tongi closed the night by taking the stage without his guitar to sing “Bring It on Home to Me” by Sam Cooke. Bryan told him that “there is no way people can’t love you.” Richie pointed to the audience reaction, explaining that “the crowd is saying it all for us.”
At the end of the night America chose to keep Wé, Megan, and Iam in the competition. They joined the Top 10, along with Warren Peay, Zachariah Smith, Haven Madison, Colin Stough, Oliver Steele, Tyson Venegas, and Marybeth Byrd.

Lucy Love, Nutsa Eliminated from the Competition
America didn’t vote Lucy Love or Nutsa into the Top 10 last week, and they didn’t vote them in this week either. The two singers were saved by the judges for their spots in the Top 12, but they were eliminated during Sunday night’s show.
Nutsa’s elimination in particular might come as a surprise to some, considering she’s been one of the judges’ clear favorites throughout the season. On Sunday, she delivered a powerhouse performance of “Show Must Go On” by Queen, prompting Richie to call her a star. But it turns out America wasn’t as “nuts for Nutsa” as the panel was.
Meanwhile, Lucy returned from last week’s emotional performance of an original song to perform Richie’s hit “All Night Long.” Bryan told her he was “so glad we brought you back.” However, she didn’t earn enough votes from the viewers at home.
The Top 10 singers will take the stage on Monday night to perform songs chosen by the judges. America will vote live once again to decide which singers should be in the Top 7. Do you agree with tonight’s results? Let us know in the comments below.
