If you’ve ever considered auditioning for American Idol, 2020 might just be your year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the show has opened auditions online. You could be chosen to appear on Season 19.
Auditions will be open for a few more months. Read on to find out how you can submit a video audition, and what the requirements are for participating.
How To Audition For ‘American Idol’ In 2020
If you’d like to submit an online audition for the upcoming season of American Idol, you can visit the official auditions website. Here you’ll be directed to the registration form. You’ll need to make a profile and submit a video of yourself singing.

Remember that in order to be eligible, you must be at least 15 years old on September 1, 2020. You also must be a legal United States resident, and may not have made it to the Top 10 in any previous season. Check out more eligibility requirements here.
Auditions are open through October 26, 2020. If you’re selected, a producer from the show will contact you until around November 1. The show also recently gave fans the opportunity to audition for a producer on Instagram Live, so be sure to follow the page in case another chance comes up.
What Should Your Audition Video Be Like?
According to the American Idol audition FAQs, you must answer a series of questions in addition to recording your singing performance. Include your name and the title of the song in the video. Follow the guidelines on the audition website for how long each part should be.

Avoid wearing clothing with logos or copyrighted images during your video audition. You must perform alone, so no back-up singers or bands allowed. You are, however, allowed to play an instrument while you sing. Backing tracks are also allowed, but you may not make any post-production enhancements.
