American Idol fans recently made their dissatisfaction with the current season known on Reddit. This week’s ‘90s-themed Judges’ Song Contest was especially disappointing to a number of viewers.
Fans Are Unhappy with American Idol Season 24
Monday’s new live episode of American Idol Season 24 featured the annual Judges’ Song Contest, in which the contestants perform songs picked by the panel. This year, the round had a ’90s twist. Unfortunately, many of this season’s young contestants didn’t recognize a number of the chosen songs.
“Tonight was proof this year is the WORST of the WORST,” wrote a fan on Reddit after the show, adding, “A massacre of iconic songs tonight. absolute butchery. Voices lost, and the arrangements were worse.”
Many fans in the comments agreed, with one person writing, “Just because they were born in 2003-2007 shouldn’t keep them from knowing these songs. I always knew the hits of previous decades.” They added that they appreciated judge Carrie Underwood’s willingness to be critical.
“If you have a week where they’re singing classic songs and nearly every contestant says ‘I don’t know that song,’ then you probably shouldn’t have this theme again,” wrote another commenter, while someone else wondered, “Did they pick the wrong contestants or did the contestants they picked not live up to their potential?”
One American Idol fan on Reddit called this “by far the worst season of the ABC Idol,” adding, “The format changes were awful, the lack of critiques, the judges panel has zero chemistry and this is weakest group of talent.”
“I tuned in excited to see this episode and immediately turned it back off after a couple songs I love were butchered,” wrote another fan about this week’s show. “You could even see Carrie and Luke cringing. During the critiques ‘oh um….’ How is it possible to mess up ‘Iris’? ‘Wonderwall’? ‘I don’t know this song’.”
In another Reddit post, a fan argues that the show needs a new panel of judges next season. Another commenter chimed in to write, “Carrie Underwood ruined the show.” They added that they want Katy Perry back, saying, “She was a little crazy but wasn’t boring.”
Another fan wrote that this season “feels really rushed,” adding, “And cutting two people at the beginning of last night’s show was really awkward. There are just too many options of ways to vote and the live voting just doesn’t work anymore.”
