‘The Voice’ Fans React to Lack of Viewer Voting This Season

John Legend and Kelly Clarkson on 'The Voice' 2026

The Voice is currently airing Season 29 of the show, subtitled Battle of Champions. Unlike in the past, this season is completely pre-taped, so there are no live shows, and viewers at home aren’t able to vote for their favorite artists.

The Voice Season 29 Features No At-Home Voting

Earlier this week, a fan on Reddit posted, “So the tv audience doesn’t vote at ALL this season??” They included a link to an article from February in which coach Kelly Clarkson commented on this season’s lack of at-home voting.

“The voting is now in-house. This is the first season that the voting is in-house. That’s never happened, which is exciting,” Clarkson said. “It’s different on TV than when you’re in the room… the energy in the room is different, it sounds different, it’s a different thing… So I’m excited about that, I’m also nervous about that.”

According to NBC Insider, this season’s results in the Semifinals and Finals will be determined by “a new voting block comprised of super fans and past Artists.” This means that fans watching each episode from the comfort of their living rooms won’t have a say in who wins the competition.

What Do Fans Think of the Change?

Fans have been making their thoughts about the new voting format known online since it was announced. In the recent Reddit post inquiring about the lack of viewer votes, one fan wrote, “This is correct. And honestly – I think it worked greatly for this season.”

However, another commenter pointed out that, because this season was pre-filmed, “I actually feel sorry for the [winner] … because they’ve had to wait all this time almost a year before they can actually tell people that they won.”

A previous post about the season’s new format prompted a commenter to write, “Fully pre-recorded is terrible. And their voting format for it is just as terrible. ‘Super fans’. Give me a break.”
