Allen and Reinhart recently took to Instagram to announce their collaboration, to be released on August 25. They posted the song’s cover art, which shows Allen sitting outside a small cabin with his guitar while Reinhart peeks out from inside.
“Thunderclouds” was originally released in 2018 by the supergroup LSD, which consists of the famous arstists Labrinth, Diplo, and Sia. The original features more of a dance-pop sound. But based on Allen’s Instagram hashtags, this version will be more acoustic.

The official American Idol Instagram account expressed excitement over the collaboration, writing, “YES PLEASE.” Season 16 winner Maddie Poppe also commented on the team-up, writing, “So cool!! Two of my faves!”
