Reading Time: 2 minutes
America’s Got Talent Season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal is continuing to pursue an acting career. After appearing in Stargirl and its sequel Hollywood Stargirl, the 20-year-old has a role in the highly anticipated film Megalopolis.
Grace VanderWaal Appears in New Movie Megalopolis
A new trailer was recently released for Megalopolis, which was directed by Godfather filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. The film stars Adam Driver as Cesar Catilina, an architect with the power to control time who is attempting to rebuild a metropolis called New Rome.
VanderWaal co-stars in the movie as Vesta Sweetwater, a teenage pop star. She can be seen in the trailer sitting on a large crescent moon, wearing a flower crown and strumming a ukulele. It sounds like her character isn’t too far off from the real-life VanderWaal.
Megalopolis has a star-studded cast that also includes Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, Dustin Hoffman, Shia LaBeouf, and many more. The film premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters on September 27.

Coppola Praises VanderWaal’s Talent
Megalopolis director Francis Ford Coppola took to Instagram in December of last year to talk about VanderWaal, calling her “a multi-talented songwriter, musician, and actor whom I am so lucky to have worked with.” He went on to share how they met.
Coppola knows VanderWaal’s father David, calling him a “family friend.” He also mentioned that Julia Hart, daughter of Dracula screenwriter James V. Hart, cast VanderWaal in her film Stargirl. (Coppola directed Dracula, released in 1992.)
“All these threads came together, eventually resulting in casting Grace to star in and write songs for MEGALOPOLIS,” Coppola wrote, hinting that VanderWaal has original music in the film.
