‘AGT’ Recap: Live Shows Continue with Two Golden Buzzer Acts
Reading Time: 3 minutes
America’s Got Talent Season 18 returned on Tuesday night for the second live performance show this year. Eleven acts took the stage for their chance to earn America’s vote and move on to the finale. That includes not one but two Golden Buzzer acts.
Be sure to get your votes in on the show’s website or through the official app. Voting is open until Wednesday at 7 a.m. ET. The results will be announced on Wednesday night, as only two acts will make it into the Finals.
Two Golden Buzzer Acts Take the Stage on AGT
Tuesday’s show opened and closed with a Golden Buzzer act. First, Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer Chioma & The Atlanta Drum Academy took the stage for an energetic performance that had the judges dancing along.
The panel had nothing but praise, with Howie Mandel saying they were better than their audition. Heidi Klum said they “put on a show,” suggesting that they should perform with a big star like Beyoncé or Taylor Swift.
At the end of the night, the dance group Murmuration performed, having earned Mandel’s Golden Buzzer earlier in the season. They were just as in sync as they were in their audition, at one point using their arms to form the message, “STOP HATE, WE NEED LOVE AND UNITY.”
The panel gave the group a standing ovation, with Mandel and Simon Cowell calling the performance “perfection.” Cowell said they’re in “a different league.” Meanwhile, Klum admitted she didn’t give them enough credit in their audition.
Two Acts Get the Red Buzzer
Not every act had the AGT judges completely wowed this week. The Sharpe Family singers received a red buzzer from Mandel, who described their performance of “Carry On Wayward Son” as “corny,” advising them to “stay in your lane.” Sofia Vergara was also unsure about the performance, saying it felt like she was in church.
Meanwhile, Cowell called the act “wholesome” but said it was a “terrible song choice.” However, Klum said she was shocked by Mandel’s buzzer, comparing the Sharpes to the Partridge Family.
Later, dancer Erica Coffelt received a red buzzer from Cowell, who said he realized after the first couple of minutes that her performance was “actually terrible.” He added that he doesn’t think her act should headline a Las Vegas show.
Vergara took a more positive approach to her critique, telling Erica that she “already won” because she seemed to be having a such a great time on stage.
Alfie Andrew, Ahren Belisle Impress the Judges
It wasn’t just the Golden Buzzer acts who impressed the panel during Tuesday’s show. Twelve-year-old singer Alfie Andrew also wowed them with a performance of “You & I” by One Direction. He earned a standing ovation from the judges.
Mandel called Alfie the “best act of the night,” while Klum said he reminds her of Adele. Cowell told Alfie that he has “so much respect for you.” Meanwhile, comedian Ahren Belisle was also a hit with the panel after his own performance.
Ahren, who has cerebral palsy, joked about how people try to get him to make friends with other people who have cerebral palsy. He also brought out his service dog, who retrieved a beer for him in a funny moment. Ahren even made sure to flirt with Vergara. Cowell said he wanted the act to go on even longer.
