Reading Time: 4 minutes
Lauren Mascitti captured the hearts of millions as she showed off her incredible voice and songwriting abilities on this season of American Idol. Though she may not have made it into the top 20, she has a day job that is far more rewarding, saving people’s lives as a nurse on the frontlines.
Idol’s Lauren Is Working As A Nurse During the Coronavirus Pandemic
In a recent Instagram post, Mascitti posted a picture wearing scrubs and a face mask. She captioned the post “Back in the saddle!! 😷💕 My first night back to work in a while since I took off for @americanidol! Excited to be back with my fellow nurses! Any night shifters out there?” She works as a nurse but has always dreamed of a career in music. Her nana influenced her to pursue nursing as a second career in case her music career did not work out. She moved to Nashville after getting her nursing degree. She has said “I work with people at different stages in their lives, I’ve heard so many stories. The whole experience has inspired me. I’ve learned a lot about people and what they’ve gone through.” But, judging based on the performances she has given on the show, a country music career is probably right around the corner for this talented beauty.
Lauren has said on American Idol that she is a strong woman that is surrounded by other strong women. This is more apparent now more than ever as she goes back to work during this deadly pandemic. Lauren experiences firsthand just how devastating coronavirus has been for millions of people across the world. She deserves praise as one of the many brave men and women who are risking their own lives to help ensure the health and safety of others. She joins the other 2.86 million nurses currently on the frontlines in the United States during the coronavirus pandemic.
Lauren’s American Idol Journey
Lauren had an amazing journey on American Idol before returning to work as a nurse. She first wowed the judges with her original song during the auditions. Lauren brought along her fiance Shawn Camp who is also a prominent songwriter in country music. She made it to Hollywood and brought along her nana and papa who she credits as her biggest supporters. She sang another original song during Hollywood week and wowed the judges with her performance. Lauren was really on everyone’s radar as someone who could win American Idol.
After her performance in Hawaii for the top 40, her fate was in the judge’s hands as she waited to find out if she was going to make it into the top 20. The judges revealed that Mascitti and fellow country singer Grace Leer were both fighting for the final spot in the top 20. They looked to America’s vote to help decide which girl would make it through. This was the first time America was able to vote for something on this season of American Idol. It truly was a nail-biter because the votes could have gone either way. Ryan Secrest revealed that it was Leer who received more votes from America and would be performing remotely as a member of the top 20. Mascitti’s ‘Idol’ journey then came to an end but she was certainly grateful for the experience.
Lauren And Grace Actually Became Good Friends
Mascitti posted an Instagram picture with Leer which was taken during the top 40 performances in Hawaii. She captioned the post “Congratulations @graceleermusic on being the winner of the vote and making the Top 20! Love you bunches, girlfriend! Make country music proud!! 😊❤️🙏🏼 #americanidol #top20@americanidol.” The two were actually roommates in Hawaii and formed a bond over their love for country music.
Leer left a comment on the post saying “I love you, Lauren!! You’re incredible. From your gorgeous face to your incredible music. I am a true fan and so lucky to have made a friend like you on this ride ❤️❤️.” Now it’s back to work as a nurse for Lauren who came so close to making it into the top 20. She continues to post her original songs on Instagram and YouTube and has grown quite a large following.
Like Lauren, all of the brave people that are returning work or continuing their work on the frontlines are truly appreciated. Hopefully, for her, her appearance on American Idol will bring her success on the country music scene in the future.
