As Hollywood Week continues on American Idol, the contestants are being challenged with delivering solo performances. For Lauren Mascitti, it was an opportunity to pay tribute to a special person in her life.

In a sneak peek video from Monday’s new episode, Lauren can be seen singing an original song she wrote inspired by her grandmother. Get the tissues ready, because it might make you cry.

‘American Idol’: Lauren Mascitti’s Tribute To Her Nana

Lauren first wowed the judges with an original song in her audition. She kept the original stuff going in Hollywood Week, dedicating a song called “God Made a Woman” to her nana Dee.

Lauren explained that her nana was her “first and strongest example of what a woman is supposed to be.” She added, “Who I am as a person is because of her.”

Dee has encouraged Lauren’s pursuit of music and recalls 3-year-old Lauren making up songs and playing instruments. Lauren’s nana even accompanied her to Hollywood and sat in the audience during her performance.

Lauren’s Original Song ‘God Made A Woman’

Dee could be seen getting emotional as Lauren performed her original song “God Made a Woman.” The song, which Lauren played on the guitar, includes such lyrics as, “He took a little beauty, took a little grace / A whole lotta passion and a whole lotta pain / Put it all together and gave it a name / God made a woman.”
