Reading Time: 2 minutes

During Season 12 of BGT, a choir auditioned for the show and brought the judges to tears with their inspiring message. The performance held special meaning for judge Amanda Holden.

The choir, called B Positive, includes members with sickle cell disease or who know people with the disease. They were formed by NHS Blood and Transplant, and seek to encourage people to donate blood.

Inspiring Choir Auditions For ‘BGT’

When the choir announced that their name was B Positive, Amanda commented that it was her blood type, even before she knew that the group had to do with blood donation.

For their audition, the choir performed a rousing rendition of “Rise Up” by Andra Day. Much of the audience stood up to cheer before the performance was even over. Judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon had tears in their eyes.

“That was one of the most soulful, honest, authentic performances we’ve had on the show,” Alesha told the choir. Simon Cowell, meanwhile, faked them out by saying, “I didn’t think it was great … I thought it was amazing.”

Amanda Holden Shares What The Performance Means To Her

BGT judge Amanda Holden had a particularly emotional response to the performance, because of her own experience with blood donation. “I found the whole thing really moving, because blood donors saved my life, and they’re the reason I’m still a mummy to two girls.”

Amanda hemorrhaged during the birth of her second daughter Hollie in 2012. She apparently lost 15 liters of blood. “I won’t have any more children, that is it,” she later said. “And this is obviously what I am meant to have.”

B Positive made it to the BGT semifinals, where they were unfortunately eliminated. However, they returned as a wildcard act in the final, where they finished in eleventh place.

In 2019, the choir performed before members of the Royal Family at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey. One of the group’s members, Simonne Kerr, was tragically murdered not long after the BGT final in 2018. The choir posted on Instagram that they were “devastated” by her loss.
