Did Simon Cowell Really Hit The Golden Buzzer For THIS ‘BGT’ Act?! [VIDEO]

In 2016, Simon Cowell hit what was possibly the most unexpected Golden Buzzer in BGT history. It didn’t go to an inspiring singer, but rather to a group of dancing Stormtroopers.
The group, called Boogie Storm, shocked the judges with their energetic moves to famous songs. Simon Cowell loved it so much, he used his one Golden Buzzer for the season.
Simon Cowell Hits ‘BGT’ Golden Buzzer For Boogie Storm
The members of Boogie Storm didn’t say a word when they walked on stage for their audition. Even when the judges asked them questions, they remained silent. Then they began their performance, stepping out to “The Imperial March” from Star Wars.
Then the dancing began. The Stormtroopers got their groove on to popular songs like “Gangnam Style” and “Single Ladies.” They even twerked at one point! The audience went wild, and the judges gave them a standing ovation.

The crowd started chanting for the judges to hit the Golden Buzzer, and Simon Cowell answered the call. The Stormtroopers hugged each other and danced as gold confetti rained down around them.
“I literally said, if we could find Stormtroopers who can dance … this show is gonna go to a different league,” Simon said. “My dream has come true. Thank you.” David Walliams said Simon “may have lost his mind,” to which Simon replied, “The Dark Side has taken over.”
Boogie Storm’s ‘Got Talent’ Journey
Boogie Storm finished the competition in third place, and went on to compete on both BGT: The Champions and AGT: The Champions. During AGT: The Champions, Simon Cowell once again hit his Golden Buzzer for the group. However, it caused some controversy.

The Golden Buzzer for that episode was meant to come from Howie Mandel. Simon encouraged Howie to hit it, but Howie refused. So Simon hit it instead, effectively stealing Howie’s Golden Buzzer for that episode.
“You know why I did it?” Simon said afterward. “Because I believe the Dark Side is the good side.” Howie continued the joke, telling the Stormtroopers, “Simon Cowell is your father!”
