Harry Styles’ New ‘Watermelon Sugar’ Music Video Is FINALLY Here & It’s A Sweet Paradise

The highly anticipated release of Harry Styles’ feel-good summer music video just dropped! And it did not disappoint. With its beachy vibes and some majors hotties featured in the video, it gave everyone the dose of sugar they all needed. Is anyone else suddenly craving watermelon?
Harry Styles Has Some Fun In The Sun In ‘Watermelon Sugar’ Video
It’s not every day that you see Harry wearing a bright yellow outfit and carrying a watermelon into the ocean. But, we absolutely loved it. This video is full of fun little moments that really showcase Harry’s personality, and of course, tons and tons of watermelon. From the neon outfits that the models in the video are wearing to the pearl necklace that Harry wears while he sits at a table, it does not get any more lively than this.
“This video is dedicated to touching,” says the bio for the song. It was obviously filmed before the coronavirus pandemic and truly does make us miss the days where social distancing did not prevent us from being close to other people. As you can imagine, there is a plethora of watermelon eating in this video along with some strawberry eating as well. This video is literally a haven for fresh fruit and we are jealous. At one point, a woman feeds Harry some strawberries and he looks like he is on top of the world. The 70s inspired outfits and blue flower-shaped sunglasses that Harry is wearing is a concept that only he could pull off. Not to mention the quirky red heart-shaped glasses that he wears later in the video. Where can we buy those?

There Is A Subtle Connection To One Direction
Do you remember the iconic music video for “What Makes You Beautiful?” Of course, you do, because it’s the one where the world first fell in love with each member of One Direction. In that video, the boys frolic on a beach and romance some girls. They even take a dip in the ocean and look like they are having the time of their lives. Harry’s new music video is a subtle nod to that. Both “Watermelon Sugar” and “What Makes You Beautiful” were filmed on the same exact beach in Malibu. They both have the same sort of fun beachy vibes and we wish we were there to feel the cool ocean breeze. They have similar sequences of running into the ocean and just hanging out with friends.

Another subtle nod to the One Direction music video is the colors of the tablecloth on the table that Harry is sitting at. They are the same colors as the van that the boys drive in the “What Makes You Beautiful” video. Harry clearly has love for his days with One Direction and here’s to hoping that a reunion actually happens soon.
Harry Has A Hilarious Relationship With “Watermelon Sugar”
“Watermelon Sugar” is his fourth single off the album Fine Line. He actually revealed on Tiny Desk Concert that he did not like the song when he began working on it. He also mentioned that it was the longest it had ever taken him to finish a song. Harry went on to add that the song is about “that initial euphoria of when you start seeing someone.”
His feelings of hatred towards the song turned into love when the song kept reappearing in his life. Since he began writing it during his first initial tour for his self titled album, it was put on the back burner. But, we’re so happy now that it has been shared with the world.
