The Masked Singer panelist Jenny McCarthy recently opened up about the medical issues she faced due to mold exposure beginning in 2024. While filming the talent show, McCarthy dealt with a painful toothache that led to further problems.
Jenny McCarthy Opens Up About Losing Her Teeth
During a recent episode of her podcast The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg show, the comedian shared that in October of 2024, she woke up with an ache in her tooth. Days later, her face ended up swelling up on one side. After visiting the dentist to have the infection removed, everything seemed to be “back to normal.”
“Two weeks later, on Masked Singer, I wake up with the same pain,” McCarthy recalled. “Literally, by the end of the day on Masked Singer, my face is blown up again.”
Due to filming the talent show, she had to delay treatment. McCarthy said she was “popping painkillers” and trying to hide her swollen face from the cameras. After visiting another dentist, she was advised to have the tooth extracted. She received 17 Novocaine injections, but the area was not numbed.
When the dentist pulled her tooth, she recalled hearing a crack and letting out a scream. A couple of weeks later, the pain returned, and she visited another dentist. She learned that another tooth was infected, and had it extracted. Her body ended up rejecting the dental implants she had put in, and the infection grew “into my jawbone.” She chose not to have the implants put back in.
“I literally have no teeth on this side of my mouth,” McCarthy said, pointing to her left side. “There’s just nothing there.”
At the same time, she was dealing with dental issues, Jenny McCarthy dealt with a recurring chalazion cyst on her lower eyelid. She received several injections and underwent multiple surgeries to deal with the issue.
McCarthy’s functional medicine doctor eventually suggested that she should be tested for mold exposure. She insisted that her “house is so clean,” but she ended up following her doctor’s advice. The results came back to show that she had been exposed to “the type of mold that causes seizures.”
“My body wasn’t able to fight anything anymore,” McCarthy said of how the mold affected her. “Which is why I kept having to have repeated surgeries, repeated surgeries, repeated surgeries…”
McCarthy said she thought the mold exposure might have occurred in a damp dressing room, as her makeup artist also suffered health issues. She ended up following a “mold protocol,” but later testing showed that her levels had doubled. Even after her home was remediated, McCarthy became so paranoid about mold that she started sleeping in a tent outside.
