Dancing with the Stars host and former Mirrorball champion Alfonso Ribeiro recently responded to a claim from former contestant Alexa PenaVega that the show might be rigged. Ribeiro denied the speculation that the show’s results aren’t genuine.
Alfonso Ribeiro Denies Claim That DWTS Is Rigged
Alexa PenaVega competed on Season 21 of DWTS, along with her husband Carlos PenaVega. During a recent episode of their podcast LexLos, the couple discussed the possibility that the competition show might be rigged.
Alexa recalled a conversation with fellow contestant Hayes Grier, who placed eighth in her season. After being in the bottom one night, Grier suggested that the show might be rigged, as he believed he should be getting the most votes due to his social media following.
“I think the votes matter. I do, but the show is also produced,” Alexa said. It’s true that the judges’ scores are also factored into the results, but Alexa suggested that producers also choose to focus on certain storylines.
DWTS host Alfonso Ribeiro commented on a TikTok clip of the couple’s conversation, writing that there is “no chance” the show is rigged. He added, “We want everyone who’s popular to stay on. It’s basic logic.”

In response to Alfonso Ribeiro’s TikTok comment denying that DWTS is rigged, Alexa PenaVega explained that the clip they posted didn’t give the full context of the conversation they were having on the podcast.
“The clip picks up mid story … and then goes back to the top,” Alexa wrote. “Watch the whole clip and episode. I’m telling a story about sweet Hayes.”
Another commenter argued that the PenaVegas knew what the reaction would be to the video, writing that they “purposely posted this clip this way to be controversial.” They added, “That’s on you. Don’t be misleading.”
