Kelly Clarkson and her children on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show'

It’s been one year since Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock passed away, and a new report has revealed how the singer and her kids are coping with the loss.

How Kelly Clarkson’s Family Is Coping with Loss

Last August, Brandon Blackstock passed away at age 48 after a three-year battle with skin cancer. A source told Page Six that is has been “an incredibly emotional year” for Kelly Clarkson and the former couple’s two kids.

“Losing a parent at such a young age is something no child should ever have to go through. Kelly has done everything she can to be there for River and Remy as they’ve navigated that loss,” the source shared. “Her focus has been making sure they feel loved, supported and as stable as possible while giving them the space to grieve in their own way.”

Clarkson and Blackstock tied the knot in 2013, and their divorce was finalized in 2022. Clarkson won primary custody of their kids in 2020, and Blackstock was ordered to leave their Montana ranch after the divorce was settled.

In the year since Blackstock’s death, Clarkson has apparently gained “a different perspective,” as the source adds, “She still has moments that are incredibly hard, but she’s in a much better place than she was during the divorce years.”

Clarkson’s Talk Show Is Ending

Earlier this year, Kelly Clarkson announced that her eponymous talk show would be ending later this year after the current seventh season. Page Six‘s source shared that it “wasn’t an easy decision because she genuinely loved it,” but added that “it gave her the time and flexibility she needed to put her family first.”

The singer is certainly keeping busy, as she’s currently performing a Las Vegas residency and recently released a new single called “I’d Be Lyin’.” Clarkson is also returning to The Voice as a coach for Season 30, which will premiere on NBC on September 21.
