American Idol Officially Renewed for Season 25

On Wednesday, news that American Idol is returning for Season 25 was announced on Good Morning America. The show also shared a post on Instagram confirming the renewal. The season will air in 2027, which is 25 years after the first season premiered in 2002.

“Idol Across America” auditions for Season 25 will reportedly kick off on August 25 and run through October 15. The show shared a list of dates on Instagram. Hopeful singers can sign up for an audition on the show’s website. Contestants must have been born between June 2, 1997, and February 15, 2012.

A specific premiere date for Season 25 has yet to be announced, but the most recent season kicked off in January of this year. The new season will air on ABC, and it will also be available for fans to stream live on Disney+.

Will the Judges Be Back Next Season?

As of this writing, the judges for American Idol Season 25 have not been confirmed. Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan have sat on the panel for several years now, while Carrie Underwood finished her second season as judge earlier this year.

Host Ryan Seacrest, who has appeared on every season of American Idol since the beginning, has also not been confirmed to return. However, it would be extremely surprising not to see him hosting the new season after so many years.

Some fans have expressed their hope that former contestant Jennifer Hudson might join the show’s panel, perhaps replacing Underwood. Hudson served as a guest judge on the most recent season.
