Katharine McPhee Cast in Upcoming Mystery Series

According to Variety, McPhee has been cast in a role on the limited series The Artist, alongside fellow actresses Jilly Hennessy, Ever Anderson, and Ana Mulvoy Ten. The show is set to air on the free streaming service The Network.

Set during the Gilded Age, the show reportedly follows “an ensemble of the era’s celebrities including Thomas Edison, Edgar Degas and Evelyn Nesbit,” who meet at the home of “an eccentric and failing tycoon.” When the tycoon is found dead, a murder mystery ensues.

McPhee will reportedly play Nora Bayes, a vaudeville performer. The show is currently filming on location in Connecticut. On Monday, McPhee shared a photo of herself in a period costume on Instagram stories, writing, “Back on set again. It’s been a minute.”

The Artist will also star Mandy Patinkin, Janet McTeer, Danny Huston, Patti LuPone, Hank Azaria, Zachary Quinto, and Clark Gregg. The series will feature seven episodes and is set to premiere in March 2025. Aram Rappaport, founder of The Network, serves as creator, executive producer, writer, and director.

Has McPhee Acted Before?

This isn’t McPhee’s first time acting. In 2008, she appeared in the comedy movie The House Bunny. She’s also had guest starring roles on various TV shows, including Community and Ugly Betty. Perhaps most famously, she starred in the short-lived NBC series Smash.

Most recently, McPhee had roles in the 2021 movie The Tiger Rising, and the Netflix series Country Comfort — the latter of which was canceled after one season. McPhee appeared as a country star who takes a job as a nanny.

McPhee has recently been recording new music. She teased her sixth studio album on Instagram last month, sharing photos and a clip from the recording studio. McPhee’s last solo album, I Fall in Love Too Easily, was released in 2017.
