Gwen Stefani was recently a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she opened up about the process of creating her latest album Bouquet. Stefani also gushed about her husband Blake Shelton, saying their relationship is a “miracle.”

Gwen Stefani Talks About Blake Shelton Romance

“On this album, you needed to hear how far the love grew,” Stefani said of how her new album details her romance with Shelton. “After having to scrape myself off the ground and start over again, it’s a miracle. It’s just such a miracle to be now nine years in.”

Stefani called Shelton “so cute,” adding that she felt her prettiest “right when Blake started loving me.” That inspired her song “Pretty,” as she explained, “When you actually feel love for the first time, they reflect you. You can see yourself in them.”

“This record is kind of just like a diary of those kinds of little thoughts that I had, through feeling love for the first time,” Stefani said of Bouquet, the new 10-song album which was released on November 15.

Stefani and Shelton met on The Voice in 2014, and they started dating in 2015. The couple got engaged in 2020 and tied the knot the next year. They celebrated their three-year wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Stefani ‘Felt Guilty’ About Making New Music

Stefani told Drew Barrymore that she started wanting to make a new album in late 2020, but she “felt guilty” about taking time away from her kids to record new music. She also acknowledged that she’s already made quite a bit of music.

“But I just couldn’t put it away,” Stefani said, adding that she “kept trying to chase my old self” as she played around with what the new album should sound like. “It felt like going in and getting my old prom dress and putting it on and going, ‘I love it, but it’s just not working anymore.'”

She said she started writing around the time she got engaged in 2020, so the whole process took about four years. Stefani said she “wrote a lot of songs,” but she wanted to “handpick the best bouquet of songs to explain what was going on.”
