David Walliams is Reportedly Battling With Suicidal Thoughts Following ‘BGT’ Departure

Former Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams recently came forward about the severe emotional toll he’s experienced after being axed from the ITV show. Legal documents have revealed the depths of his despair. Walliams also disclosed that his removal from the show led to severe depression and even suicidal thoughts.
David Walliams Suffered From Severe Depression After His BGT Exit
Walliams was a prominent member of the judging panel on BGT for over a decade. However, his departure from the show was not on his terms. Allegedly, Walliams was giving a £1 million offer to appear on the 2023 series, but it was retracted due to the derogatory comments made in 2020.
The former BGT judge alleges that the breach of his personal data rights played a significant role in his mental health struggles. In the legal documents, he claims that he and his fellow judges often engaged in private conversations during filming breaks. At the time, they were unaware that their microphones were still recording. These private discussions touched on sensitive issues, including his romantic relationships, the impact of his divorce on his son, and his physical and mental health.
The recent events surrounding BGT have had a profound impact on his mental well-being. In the past, Walliams has been open about his past struggles with depression. Now, he’s explaining how vulnerable he felt when entering the BGT studio. Walliams now fears that his every word and action might be recorded and leaked without his consent.
In the legal documents, a retired consultant psychiatrist and practicing psychotherapist noted that he is “plagued by uncontrollable negative thoughts,” including “active suicidal thoughts.” This highlights the severity of the toll these events have taken on his mental health.
The Former Judge Suffered Significant Financial Losses Following BGT
In addition to his emotional and psychological struggles, Walliams has also experienced significant financial and professional setbacks. His lost earnings are estimated to be over £1.7 million. Furthermore, the damage to his reputation has led to the cancellation of TV appearances. In addition, other canceled projects include a podcast with Matt Lucas (his comedy partner from Little Britain), and the abandonment of two planned stage adaptations of his books were also cancelled.
Due to this, Walliams is taking legal action against FremantleMedia, the company behind BGT. He alleged that they breached his personal data rights. He seeks damages for loss of earnings, distress, psychiatric harm, and the loss of control over his personal information.
In response, FremantleMedia expressed surprise and sadness at the legal action and expressed their willingness to resolve the matter amicably. However, they also noted their preparedness to defend themselves if necessary.
