Susan Boyle Returns to ‘BGT,’ Reveals She Suffered a Stroke

Famous Britain’s Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle returned to the show on Sunday night for the Series 16 finale, where she performed with the West End cast of Les Misérables. Boyle also revealed during her appearance that she had suffered a stroke last year.
BGT Runner-Up Susan Boyle Reveals Stroke
Boyle is known for her stunning performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Series 3 of BGT back in 2009. The singer ended up finishing the competition in second place behind dance group Diversity. She returned for a guest performance during Sunday’s Series 16 finale.
After the performance, Boyle told hosts Ant and Dec that it was “extra special” that she was able to return to the show and perform, revealing, “Last April there, I suffered a minor stroke, and I fought like crazy to get back on stage, and I have done it.”
Judge Simon Cowell told the singer, “Susan, we owe you so much. I knew you weren’t well, but if anyone was gonna come back, you were gonna come back, because we wouldn’t be the same without you. You are amazing.”

Boyle Followed Up on Social Media
After Sunday night’s performance, Boyle posted about the experience on her Facebook page, sharing photos from her finale appearance. In the caption, Boyle also shared a little more about her stroke recovery.
“For the past year I have worked so hard to get my speech and singing back, with the sole aim of being able to sing on stage again,” Boyle wrote, adding that “tonight my hard work & perseverance paid off, singing the song that started it all, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’…”
In 2019, Boyle competed on America’s Got Talent: The Champions, earning a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B. The same year, she put out a new album called Ten. In 2021, she performed at the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony.
