‘The Voice’ Recap: Teams Blake, Chance Shine on Stage, Secure Semifinal Singers
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Voice returned to NBC with the show’s first Playoff of Season 23. This season, the Playoffs are different than the last. Instead of fully live rounds, the first two weeks of the Playoffs are pre-recorded. This episode and next week’s episode will feature coach picks, in the coming weeks fans will be able to vote.
As soon as the show began, the host, Carson Daly, explained how the new format works. In this episode, Teams Blake and Chance took turns performing on stage. Although they were primarily performing for their coach, the other coaches were able to place their input.
At the end of the night, Blake Shelton and Chance The Rapper decided which of their artists would go into the Top 8. For those who may have missed it, each coach will have two artists ahead of this season’s Live Playoffs.
Best Performances of The Night
NOIVAS
Right off the bat, NOIVAS came out with an insanely amplified stage presence. This artist has always been amazing vocally, but his stage presence tonight really sealed the deal. Right away, coaches knew that NOIVAS would end up going further in the competition.

Kala Banham
New Team Chance member Kala Banham, was coming to the stage as an in depth storyteller. She added so much emotion to her song that Chance The Rapper actually started crying behind the scenes. This was truly the song for Kala. She had the coaches speechless after the performance.
Grace West
Team Blake member Grace went into this performance singing a song she knows, but has never sang. Although she didn’t have any crazy experience singing The Judds song, the performance was extremely natural. Her classic country tonality really shined through.

Kylee Dayne
After Kylee’s insane Knockout, I was really looking forward to seeing her perform again. In this round, the singer performed “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. Although Kylee is my favorite Team Blake member, I have to admit that this song arrangement didn’t seem to compliment her voice well.
Mary Kate Connor
This was the first time fans were able to see Mary Kate following her Playoff Pass. In this performance she sang “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry. She wanted to channel her theater background and show off her more dramatic side with this performance.
Which Singers Are Going into The Top 8?
After some pretty outstanding performances, the final Team Blake and Team Chance members are… NOIVAS and Grace West, and Sorelle and Ray Uriel. This wasn’t much of a surprise, since each of these four singers have been standouts in their own way.
Next Monday, Teams Kelly and Niall will perform back-to-back in the same fashion. Fans should prepare to see standouts Ryley Tate Wilson, ALI, D Smooth, and more. What do you think about tonight’s episode and the Playoff format overall? Let us know in the comments down below.
