‘The Voice’ Recap: Kelly Clarkson Blocks Chance The Rapper’s Steal With Her Playoff Pass

Reading Time: 3 minutes
With two episodes left of The Voice season 23 Battle Rounds, singers have really stepped up their game. The show saw multiple beautiful matchups tonight, but here were a few of our favorites.
Kelly Clarkson Uses Her Playoff Pass
The night began with a Team Kelly showdown, featuring D.Smooth and Ali. Ahead of coaching the two sings, Clarkson attempted to figure out a tune that would match the two. If you don’t remember, D.Smooth sang “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, while Ali sang “Killing Me Softly” by Fugees. In the end, the coach decided to assign “Unaware” by Allen Stone to the pair.
The singers went into this battle, hoping to impress Clarkson so she’ll use her Playoff Pass. It was extremely obvious that they were well practiced and ready to secure their place in the Knockout Rounds. Coaches were freaking out during this performance, since both singers were able to hit their harmonies and higher notes with ease.
After the song completed, Clarkson picked Ali as the winner of the competition. Luckily for D Smooth, his journey isn’t over. Although Chance The Rapper hit his steal for the singer, Clarkson hit her Playoff Pass for D.Smooth. D.Smooth will remain on Team Kelly and will be seen again in the Live Playoffs.

Chance The Rapper Brings New Song to The Voice Stage
Later in the episode, NariYella and Chloe Abbott battled it out for their places in the Knockout Rounds. For those who may not remember, NariYella performed Dreamgirls’ “One Night Only” and Chloe performed Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love” in the blind auditions. Chance The Rapper chose “I Want You Around” by Snoh Aalegra as their battle song.
These artists truly owned this performance, they were both strutting around the stage. Vocally, this performance gets two thumbs up, this was one of the best Battles of the night, and there’s no denying it. immediately after the song finished, Clarkson was excited to compliment NariYella and Chloe.
In the end, Chance The Rapper decided to pick NariYella as the winner of the battle. NariYella will now continue into the Knockout Rounds as part of Team Chance. Unfortunately, Chloe is now out of the competition. Behind the scenes, Clarkson said she would’ve stolen Chloe if she was able.

Coaches Say Team Niall Singers Should be in The Finale
The episode ended with the show’s newest early release, featuring Team Niall members Michael B. and Ryley Tate Wilson. Within the early released battle, the two were performing “Heartbreak Anniversary” by Giveon.
Even though this was a four-chair turn against a one-chair turn, and a 29-year-old against a 15-year-old, but both singers totally held their own during the soulful performance. After the performance, Niall Horan chose Michael B as the winner. Luckily, Ryley’s journey on The Voice isn’t over quite yet, Horan awarded his Playoff Pass to him!
The Voice returns with the final Battle Round on Tuesday, April 4 at 9 p.m. EST. Be sure to tune in, so you don’t miss the final artists going into the Knockout Rounds.
