American Idol winner Carrie Underwood recently opened up about taking pride in her live performances. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she shared that she used to “lose respect” for artists who couldn’t hit notes during their concerts.

Carrie Underwood Takes Pride in Her Vocal Performances

Underwood recently kicked off her new Denim & Rhinestones tour, after her album of the same name. As she told Rolling Stone, it’s important for her to sound good on her performances. That includes her live performances, as she’s witnessed other artists slacking in that regard.

“I love to sing, and I’ve always taken pride in the work I’ve put in on my vocals. I do want to sound good,” Underwood explained. “Growing up and going to concerts or seeing my favorite artists on TV, if they didn’t sound like they were supposed to sound, it was always so deflating. I’d lose respect for them.”

The singer also mentioned that she’s heard singers “drop keys” in concert and thought to herself, “You can’t hit the notes! Why’d you record them if you can’t sing them?”

It’s no wonder Underwood won Season 4 of American Idol, since she takes singing live so seriously. That entire competition is based on being able to belt out the notes live on television. And with eight Grammys, she obviously sounds great in the studio as well.

Underwood Is Returning to Las Vegas Next Year

Underwood plans to continue her Las Vegas residency Reflection next year after her current tour wraps up. The singer told Rolling Stone that the residency format allows her to do things production-wise that can’t be done when she’s traveling from city to city.

“From a switching-things-up perspective, when you’re on the road, you’re in different towns, and all the people in the audience are from that general area of the world,” Underwood continued. “What I love about Vegas is you’re in one place, but everybody is from everywhere. It’s a mishmash of people from all over the place. It’s cool to look out at the audience and think about that.”

Underwood is continuing her tour into 2023, with stops around the United States. You can check out her website for upcoming dates and to buy tickets to see the show.
