‘The Comeback Stage’ Recap: Ciera Dumas Goes Head-to-Head With Kayla Seeber
Reading Time: 2 minutes
This week on The Comeback Stage, recently eliminated Ciera Dumas went up against Kayla Seeber. Under the coaching of fifth coach Bebe Rexha, one will move on to the next round.
Let’s see who gets one step closer to the Live Shows in this week’s episode of The Comeback Stage!
Ciera Dumas
Ciera was eliminated in her Battle with LB Crew, a four-chair-turner on Team Adam. When none of the coaches stole her, Bebe came in for the save! And honestly, I’m glad she did. I liked Ciera a lot and was surprised to see that no one stole her. I personally would’ve stolen her (and Rizzi) over Karly or Kendra. But that’s just my opinion!
This time around, Ciera sang “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan. This really shows a cool side of her personality and tone. I didn’t know Ciera was capable of pulling off such a big song! And her head voice in the higher register gave me legit chills. Plus, she just has raw power when she really goes for it. Bebe complimented her voice, saying it’s “like butter.”
Kayla Seeber
After crushing a (relatively unknown) Two Door Cinema Club song in her last appearance on The Comeback Stage, Kayla went back to changing up pop songs this week. Because that worked so well in her Blind Audition? Oh wait, she didn’t turn any chairs. Well, beside the point I guess. We’re back to that tactic!
Kayla chose to sing “Believe” by Cher for this Battle. She talks about the lyrics and wanting to change the mood to fit them. Kayla has some awesome runs, definitely making it her own. Bebe calls her “Miss Changing Up The Song,” which will for sure catch on. She encourages her to project so we don’t “lose” her in the music. But unfortunately, it seems like just that happened. Kayla’s twist on the song was interesting, but forgettable.
Who Won This Battle?
Emerging from the Lays Recording Lounge, Bebe declared Ciera Dumas the winner! I think that was the right choice. And honestly, no surprises here. Ciera has serious potential to make it back into the Live Shows. Personally, I like her odds better than last week’s winner, Savannah Brister.
But only time will tell who can earn America’s vote back into the Top 13! We’ll be back next week with the final Battle with Kanard Thomas on The Comeback Stage!
