Julianne Hough posted an article to her Instagram feed about her new role as judge on The Activist. Little did she know, she would soon receive harsh criticism about the show and her connection to the competition. On September 14, Hough posted again in attempt to clear her name before the scandal blows up.

The new series was announced earlier this month and is produced by the international advocacy organization, Global Citizen. The show was set to have six activists battle head to head to raise the profiles of their respective causes. They will all attempt to get funding from some of the biggest world leaders. The cause that receives the most funding will win the competition.

Hough was excited to be a part of a show that highlighted activists. But her job as a judge quickly blew up in her face when fans questioned her qualifications. As soon as the The Activist was shared, people questioned the nature of the show. Fans were concerned, wondering whether she listened to what the show was really about or not. Following the uprise, she shared a lengthy apology post to Instagram.

Within this text post, Hough touched on the fact that she’s not qualified to host The Activist. She also made sure her fans knew she was hearing their concerns in the process.

When criticizing her attendance in the show, many fans decided to bring up her blackface incident from 2013. In 2013 Hough and a few friends dressed up as the characters from Orange Is The New Black. For Halloween, the Dancing With The Stars ex-pro dressed up as Uzo Aduba’s character from the series.

To this day, fans still remember this mishap. Even though Hough apologized at the time, she issued another apology for this topic to go along with The Activist. She shared that she is still embarrassed from the 2013 mishap. But she also said her embarrassment will never amount to the harm she had done. Hough also explained that although she still isn’t perfect, she has learned from the situation.

What is The Activist?

CBS’s new reality show was really over before it even began. Almost as soon as it was announced, people shared how messed up they thought the idea was.

Although this sounds like a great format for a competition show, nothing related to activism should be about winning a prize. Fans weren’t afraid to tell Hough that on Instagram either. Hough announced on September 10 that she would be a part of the celebrity judge panel alongside Usher and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas.

Even though Hough issued an apology about the show, she hasn’t said she isn’t going to judge the show. Her Instagram apology addressed every point in the book, other than her attendance. Instead, it seems like she’s brought her followers concerns to the network. Usher and Chopra-Jonas haven’t spoken on the nature of The Activist.
