Singer Jessie J recently revealed that she’s been dealing with a throat condition that prevents her from singing. The star, who has coached on three versions of The Voice, was honest about how the condition made her feel. She shared an Instagram video in which she tears up while singing quietly for her speech therapist.

In the video, she quietly sings her latest single “I Want Love,” at one point getting emotional. The singer explained that the clip was to let her speech therapist hear her voice. She added that she’s been unable to sing the song since recording it “because of the pain I am experiencing.”

Jessie said “it’s been hard not singing.” She continued her thoughts in her Instagram story, sharing that she thought the condition “would be solved by now,” so she hadn’t mentioned it to fans yet. She explained that she started feeling constant burning in her throat back in February.

“When I went to see a doctor,” she continued, “I was told I have major acid reflux and nodules because I have continued to sing with acid reflux which was probably caused by the steroids I had taken for my ear late last year.”

Jessie said she continues to be in pain every day, sharing that the nodules have “melted away” from resting her voice, but doctors say they’ll come back if she sings. She told fans she was sharing the news to explain why she wasn’t doing promo for her new song.

The Singer Recently Released ‘I Want Love’

Jessie recently put out a single called “I Want Love” that has fans dancing their way into summer. What fans didn’t know is what she went through to get it to them. Jessie said she shot everything for it in two days, and she was “in agony by the end of it.”

The singer said she still has “passion and fire” for her music, adding, “I felt it so important for you to have new music and it be out for summer.” She said she’s doing what she can “to mend whatever it is that is broken to be able to sing these songs live.”

Following her initial explanation of her condition, Jessie shared a video intercutting shots from her “I Want Love” video with footage from her doctor’s appointments. She said her sense of humor will get her through this difficult time.

Last year, Jessie was also diagnosed with an ear condition called Meniere’s disease. She shared, “I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line.” She said she was put on medication and felt better.
