Over a year after Broadway went dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things are finally starting to look up for theater fans. Broadway’s Masked Singer is a fun new take on Fox’s hit show The Masked Singer. The only difference is, this show features Broadway stars underneath the masks and a superstar panel of Broadway performers.

Broadway’s Masked Singer is a Must-Watch Virtual Talent Show

Broadway’s Masked Singer has no official affiliation with The Masked Singer, but the objective remains the same; to guess who is underneath the mask. The virtual show is hosted by Michael Hull and Dylan Bustamante. Hull has starred in productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Avenue Q. He and Bustamente also regularly host a show called The 5:30 Quarantini.

On the judging panel for Broadway’s Masked Singer are Jackie Cox, Christopher Metzger-Timson, Kevin Metzger-Timson, Natalie Weiss, Abby DePhillips, Felicia Fitzpatrick, and Ben Cameron. All of these incredible theater performers have already unmasked one performer during the shows premiere.

Instead of relying on superfan and judges’ votes to stay in the competition, these contestants are singing to raise money for Broadway Cares. This organization raises funds for AIDS-related causes across the United States. Whichever contestant raises the least amount of money each night from the fans will be unmasked.

The show’s first episode boasted some colorful costumes with The Flamingo, The Whale, The Dalmatian, and The Chicken. The judges were stumped by some of the clues for these characters throwing out guesses like Jonathan Groff and American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis.

The Flamingo raised the least amount of money with her performances by the end of the first night and was therefore unmasked. Almost all of the judges agreed that Kate Rockwell had to be under the mask and they were right. She has starred in the Broadway adaptions of Mean Girls and Bring It On.

Where and How to Watch this New Show

The next episode of Broadway’s Masked Singer will be tonight, April 28 at 8 p.m. ET on the Broadway Cares YouTube channel. Viewers will meet four new contestants hoping to raise money for Broadway Cares. The Bee, The Potato, The Shark, and The Elephant will all make their debuts on the show.

Someone from the remaining three contestants from the first episode will be unmasked at the beginning of the show tonight. Then, the four new contestants will each perform twice. The contestant with the lowest amount of donations earned tonight will also be unmasked. Only four finalists will make it to the Broadway’s Masked Singer finale on April 30.

Even some of our favorite talent show stars have ended up on Broadway stages. Do not rule out anyone when it comes to concealing their identity under a mask.

The show may seem very short, but it’s the first taste of Broadway we have had in a very long time. The highly anticipated return of Broadway shows is projected for the fall time.
