Talented Church Singer Auditions For ‘American Idol’ — Who Is Serrin Joy?

Season 19 of American Idol is just around the corner, and the show has released its first trailers to give us a glimpse at some of the incredibly talented artists this season. One artist whose audition we cannot wait to see is Serrin Joy. This young singer will certainly be a front-runner in the competition.
Serrin Joy Is Ready To Compete On The Upcoming Season Of ‘American Idol’
Serrin is originally from Akron, Ohio. She gave a special shoutout to her hometown with #akron when she posted an Instagram video from the day she auditioned for American Idol. She comes from a musical family. All four of her siblings play instruments and her parents are ministers of music at church.
“Growing up, I used to struggle a lot with self-confidence whether it was my own viewpoint on my appearance or just showcasing my voice in general,” she said in an interview with Voyage LA. “I just didn’t think anyone would ever want to view me as a public figure. As I got into high school, I experienced people whom I remember would doubt me and told me I should settle for being a school music teacher, which there’s nothing wrong with that, but I wanted more.”

This led Serrin to begin posting singing videos on social media. Eventually, she realized she had a love for acting and went on several auditions. Check out one of her music videos down below.
She was also featured in a segment on Cleveland 19 News. “I’ve always been at church rehearsal and at choir rehearsal and as soon as I was old enough to start singing for myself I just joined in and it’s something I’ve always done,” she said during the interview.
“What sets me apart from others, I would say is that the only competition I see against myself is myself” she continued. “I love to work with other artists and learn from them.” This is definitely a great mentality for an artist to have coming onto American Idol.
Serrin Will Be One To Watch During The Upcoming Season
Based on Serrin’s experience performing and putting out her own original music, we think she could go pretty far on American Idol. Serrin also showed off the gorgeous outfit she wore to her American Idol audition on Instagram. The two-piece number makes it clear that Serrin has the perfect look and the vocal talents of a superstar on the rise.
