Mel B Kept ‘Masked Singer UK’ A Secret From The Spice Girls After Breaking The Rules On Set

The UK version of The Masked Singer recently revealed a familiar face in the second elimination of the season. Former ‘AGT’ judge Mel B was underneath The Seahorse mask after three of the judges correctly guessed it was her. The Spice Girls star had to keep it a secret from her former bandmates though it was extremely difficult to do so.
Mel B Hid Her ‘Masked Singer’ Experience From Spice Girls Bandmates
A big part of being on The Masked Singer is keeping it a secret, even from a successful girl group like The Spice Girls. “I didn’t tell any of them,” Mel said after being on the show. “I didn’t tell anybody, not even my mum and my mum’s a big gossip so I definitely wouldn’t have told her.” The girl group previously went on tour in 2019 after over two decades of success.
“They’ll probably be annoyed I didn’t tell them!” Mel said when host Joel Dommett asked what The Spice Girls would think about her big secret. Mel had some serious vocal power and experience in her voice during her performance on The Masked Singer. In between her years with the band, she judged some of the biggest talent competition shows alongside Simon Cowell.
“It’s a bit nerve-wracking because with this mask on you can’t see and it’s very constricted – so it’s literally like singing with someone’s hand in your face so that bit was a bit daunting but when the music starts you just get into it” she continued. While she enjoyed being on the show and tried to keep the secret from her bandmates and family, she did get reprimanded backstage for breaking the rules.
Mel Got In Trouble For Breaking The Rules Backstage
As you know, The Masked Singer is the most secretive show on television. The contestants have to go through great lengths both and off the stage to hide their identities. They even have to wear disguises when they are walking around backstage. Mel broke the rules when she was caught with leopard print headphones and a bag. Her Spice Girls persona is notoriously known for wearing animal print and producers felt this was a dead giveaway to her identity if anyone saw her walking on set.
“You are completely in disguise! Everything is covered” she told The Mirror. I did have – because I am a big fan of leopard print, I did arrive with my leopard print bag and leopard-print ear pods.” This was a breach of the secretive rules. She was told from that point on that everything she carried onto set had to be plain black.

Mel tried to hide her famous accent while disguised as The Seahorse on the show. “I thought I did quite a good job not sounding so northern,” she said. “To be quite girl and soft with no accent was hard work actually.” Three of the judges said that they knew it was Mel under the mask when they heard some of her pronunciations.

Mel also joked that she was going to steal the glamorous Seahorse costume and bring it home with her.
