Reading Time: 3 minutes
Anna McLuckie made history on The Voice UK as the first contestant to play the harp during her Blind Audition. The 17-year-old wanted to show people a more current and edgier side of the stringed instrument. Check out her 2014 Blind Audition below to see if any of the coaches turned their chairs.
Anna McLuckie Performs With Harp On ‘The Voice UK’
Anna performed a folk version of “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk on her harp. Immediately, coach Ricky Wilson was enchanted by her voice and turned his chair. He sat and watched the entire performance trying to hold back the huge smile on his face. When coach will.i.am went to hit his button, Ricky put his arm out to signal that he should not hit the button because he wanted this artist on his team. Still, will.i.am hit his button during the very last note of the song.
Tom Jones even said that Anna’s cover was “1,000 times better” than the original song. Even though will.i.am turned his chair very late, he promised that he would help Anna with song choice when it comes to the later rounds in the competition. Ricky was beaming when speaking to Anna and it was clear he fell in love with her unique voice. In a shocking turn of events, Anna chose will.i.am as her coach which left Ricky heartbroken.

In the Battle Rounds, Anna went up against Jessica Steele singing “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” She played the harp at the beginning of the performance. Anna was chosen as the winner of the Battle.
In the Knockout Rounds, Anna sang “Autumn.” Ricky watched the performance starry-eyed but the final decision was up to her coach will.i.am. She was not chosen to move on to the Live Shows. To this day, many feel like Anna could have gone a lot further in the competition if she chose Ricky as a coach.
Where Is She Now?
After Anna was eliminated from The Voice UK, she got a special shoutout from One Direction singer Niall Horan. “Anna from #TheVoiceUK – that was incredible! Beautiful voice and to play the harp at the same time” he tweeted.
In 2016, Anna sang backup vocals for Leona Lewis in Liverpool. She also played quite a few of her own gigs with her harp and launched an EP with her band in 2017. They just worked on a new album called TODAY, EVERYDAY which is available for purchase today.
Anna has her own YouTube channel with a few videos posted for her 44,700 subscribers. She posted one of her most recent singles that received rave reviews from her fans that have been following her since her days on The Voice UK.
