Is 15-year-old Irish actress Alisha Weir playing Dorothy in the second Wicked movie? The young star, known for her roles in Matilda the Musical and Abigail, recently commented on the rumor that she’s taking on the iconic part.
Is Alisha Weir Playing Dorothy in Wicked?
The second Wicked movie, titled Wicked: For Good, is set to premiere later this year. It will cover the second act of the Broadway musical, which explores the events of The Wizard of Oz. Fans have been wondering who might be playing Dorothy Gale.
Rumors began swirling that Alisha Weir would embody the famous character after she attended the UK premiere of the first movie wearing silver shoes — a nod to L. Frank Baum’s original story. She also posed for photos with stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande at another event.
In a new interview, Alisha reacted to the speculation, saying it was “absolutely crazy” to see. She added that it “would be wonderful” to take on the role, since she’s “such a big fan” of director Jon M. Chu, as well as Erivo and Grande.
As a fan on TikTok pointed out, the second Wicked movie has already been filmed, so Alisha’s word choice could be a sign that she’s not playing Dorothy after all. However, she also didn’t outright deny that she’s in the movie. We’ll just have to wait for further confirmation.

Will Dorothy Have a Bigger Role in the Movie?
Although Dorothy is the protagonist of The Wizard of Oz, her presence is only alluded to in the Broadway musical, which focuses more on the Wicked Witch and Glinda. However, director Jon M. Chu has teased that Dorothy could have a bigger role in the movie adaptation.
“In the show, Dorothy is around. They have to intersect, and you can only tease it so much,” Chu told Variety. “I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to ‘Part Two.'”
Dorothy and her companions (the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion) have a brief cameo walking down the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City at the start of the first Wicked movie. However, Dorothy’s face is not shown.
